NEW YEAR

What is new year? Why do people celebrate it all over the world. Well it seems nothing but a change of a number in the date. But that happens everyday then why not celebrate each morning.
Lets for an instance put this thought in abeyance and ponder over what actually we celebrate at a new year. Well on Diwali we celebrate with lights the victory of light over darkness, on Holi we celebrate the colours of life, during Pongal we celebrate a good harvest and so on. But then what do we celebrate on a new year. Its certainly not any victory of light or a change of season.

I feel that on a new year we celebrate the premise that supports the cyclical tendencies of our thoughts. The way we think and the way we live our life there are things that always revolve.

It actually is governed by nature which itself is cyclical. This can further be traced to our planet 'mother earth' revolving around the SUN. Well what if our planet was not revolving? What if it was going linearly across this universe. But then some cynics will say that well in that case there would be no life and for them i'd say assume that the sun was also going with us. Still the cynics would persist and they would not be wrong. Well life can survive on the whole planet because it is homogeneous in climate, topography, temperature and such things that make life possible.
This homogeneity is not continuous in time but the CYCLICAL nature makes is homogeneous over a period of time.

So you see the concept of cycle is at the very base of our existence. And in a new year we celebrate this concept.

Rise of Sensex: Are you watching

Light travels at the speed of 3lakh kilometers/sec. It seems nowadays even sensex is trying to compete with that record. Within a year the rise of sensex has been phenomenal. With FII's and even the retail investors pumping in more and more money the market seems to be growing like an exploding star. But, there is always a 'but' to things that we dont understand, i started thinking why did sensex rise to this height within such a short duration. Its a very obvious to question and would be beleaguring your mind too, however most of the people like to enjoy the ride and do not ask such question because it makes them uncomfortable. Even i am uncomfortable asking this and i too would also like to leave all this and sit back and enjoy till it lasts, but when i see around me i find people, thousands of people putting in their money (hard-earned or otherwise) into this blackbox hoping that they'll reap better returns than what they used to get from other avenues. This uncomfort has driven me to look into the situation a little deeper to analyse what has caused this sudden goldrush in the indian market, and why did it happen now, who will be the beneficiary, and ultimately to see if it will last.

Experts say that this rise has strong fundamentals, but i dare to ask what makes these fundamentals strong and why weren't they strong a year back. Firm's profits have not increased by the same or similar amounts by which their stock values have risen. Even the returns expected from the firms have not increased by the same multiple. Then why did the stock values rise. Will they continue their rise even into the future, or Dow will prove to be a breaking upper limit

We know that the Value of an object depends on the person in whose hands its present. It may be so that FII's see a higher value in indian stocks than the indian investor, so the question is 'Is the present rally solely driven by FII's, who is the primary driver and who are the supporters', 'Are the current valuations actually the company values','what is the basis of these values'. I ask these questions because finance fundamentals cannot change in a day.

kya karoge munna ( o child what shall you do)

In the present world the question of what will one do with life doesnt end at getting an engineering degree. I did engineering not because someone pressurized me into it or for the benefit of getting an easy job after i finish, but because of the pure love i had for physics. The pleasure of solving problems which other find too complex was irresistable, so i took the path of studying engineering.
But what now, once that i finished the course people come asking what are you planning to do next and i dont have any idea. Doing what you like was fine till college, but now i have certain responsibilities towards my family. How can i balance my personal aspirations with the duties i have.
Thinking that since family business cannot be neglected i had given up the thought of pursuing an MS and started towards the MBA road. I kept on trying to get an MBA degree thinking that it is the panacea for my problems. I tried to look at what happens after MBA but found it too complex to understand.
The purpose of education is increasing the knowledge content of a person. It does'nt need an MBA degree to develop business sense. No school can teach you these things. This degree is for those who have been there and done that but didnt have enough time to muse over the effectiveness/efficiency of the processes applied in business. Nowadays people think that it is the other way round.
Being in software doesnt feels so bad.
I love writing code but the thing is it doesnt drive me. I am not passionate about it. I think the field/branch/specializations cannot be driving factors. No one can say that he loves writing c++ programs and can keep on writing them all his life. If you are a language freak then you will go into compiler writing else you will use the languages to accomplish tasks and the motivation can come from the tasks which you are trying to solve using the computer.
I was always charmed by electronics, i found it interesting but i never made an effort on my part to go towards it.
I find it very difficult to see myself as a selfish person. I never like to do things the easy way, the way people do it in IIT, the standard way. This is why i chose composites as my field even though i didnt had any idea what i'll do after my course will be over. I didnt had any standard in front of me because i didnt look fard enough, i didnt talk to my seniors as i was too shy and thought that i'll sound too boring to them (to the people in general).
My aim in life is to become a knowledgable and respected person, whose commands respects because of the knowledge he has on certain subjects.

The first blog: Motivation

What is the motivation which drives people to do things, say to marry, have sex, have children, study, work, travel, see places, etc. etc.
This thought had been doing rounds in my mind lately, and needs a logical analysis which i will be doing here.
Let start from the stage when child is born, his brain is new and the normal patterns have still not been formed. He is amused even by waving his hand. Now all the things he does may be because of natural bodly urges like hunger, thirst, excretion, or mental urges like curiosity, getting hold of his body parts. When he grows he finds new urges like satiating his senses, attraction towards opposite sex which act in motivating his actions in addition to the older ones.
So it is the urges of people which drive them to do things. The important point now becomes can an urge keep motivating even if it gets satisfied. One such urge is curiosity
